1. Can you give us a background of the 10s Sports Series, and what prompted the idea to bring it to EL?
This world-class Sports Series is all about dynamic multiple team sports, gees and friendship, in host cities across South Africa. It all began in 2008 with the first 10s event taking place in Cape Town.

It is the brainchild of rugby legends Bob Skinstad and Robbie Fleck and long-standing mate Ron Rutland. Founded in 2008, starting off as a rugby only tournament the event has since evolved into a multi-sport event

What prompted EC10s?

The idea came about with Skarra Ntubeni, Terra Mthembu, Naledi Mdyesha, Lifa Ghana and Siya Kolisi on hosting the first EC10s which will bring people all over the country, black or white to the EC and celebrate black excellence through all works of life and just doing something different for the people in EC. Rugby, Netball and iGwijo brings people together and East London will be the first city hosting the EC10s series which will be followed by Port Elizabeth and other cities in the future.

2. For someone who has never attended Tens Sport Series, please walk us through the event?
To summarise the 10s experience – it’s where fans and players from across the globe gather to play their favourite sports and to experience the vibe of 10s that is underpinned by fun, friendships, sports and a couple of cold ones while listening to your favourite artists.

3. What should people of East London expect from the EL Tens?
We are expecting 20 rugby teams, 20 netball teams and some of the country’s local DJ’s and artists. The EC10s will be the most exciting sports festival of the year in East London.

4. How will the people of the Eastern Cape and EL benefit from this event?
We see the EC10s as the homecoming of all locals and people coming from all over the country and for them to get together and enjoy an event that not only motivates a balanced lifestyle but also focusses on friendships and family with the upliftment for people of the Eastern Cape.
